Built in a sagebrush landscape along the mighty Columbia River in the heart of Washington wine country, the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates WSU Wine Science Center is a hub for innovation, education, and collaboration.

The state-of-the-art Wine Science Center was developed in close partnership with the wine industry. This teaching, research, and extension facility is among the most technologically advanced wine research and education facilities of its kind in the world, transforming the Washington wine industry with cutting-edge science in the tradition of its forefathers, Dr. Walter Clore and Dr. Charles Nagel.

Anamika Dubey – Co-Director of AGI

Anamika Dubey received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in Dec 2015. She is currently Huie-Rogers Endowed Chair Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of EECS at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman. She also holds a joint appointment as a Research Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and currently serves as the Co-director for the WSU-PNNL Advanced Grid Institute (AGI). Her research focuses on the scalable integration of cross-domain models and data to provide better decision support for the increasingly complex electric power grids. She is a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2019) and the IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award (2023).

Wei Du – Co-Director of AGI

Dr. Wei Du received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2014. His main areas of research are control design, modeling, and simulation of power systems with high penetration of power electronics devices. He is currently a senior research engineer at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and serves as the principal investigator for multiple Department of Energy (DOE) funded projects that focus on studying the impacts of high penetration inverter-based resources on the transient and dynamic behaviors of power systems at different scales.

Angela Becker-Dippmann – Associate Laboratory Director, Energy and Environment

Ms. Angela Becker-Dippmann serves as Director of the Energy & Environment Directorate’s Program Development Office. She rejoined PNNL in April 2019. In this cross-cutting role, she evaluates emerging national, regional, and state energy and environmental priorities, policies and programs to ensure EED’s mission strategy and S&T are focused on the most impactful outcomes. She is based in PNNL’s Seattle office.

Noel Schulz – Inaugural Director – Institute for Northwest Energy Futures

Jeff Cook – VP Transmission Engineering and Technical Services, Bonneville Power Administration

As leader of BPA’s Engineering and Technical Services organization, Jeff Cook is responsible for implementing Transmission Services’ capital program, providing technical support for the transmission maintenance program and providing real property services to BPA.

Jeff leads the design, material specification, coordination, project management and energization of major transmission infrastructure projects necessary to sustain and improve the reliability of the existing system and incorporate new energy generation facilities.

Kurt Beckett – Chair, Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council

Kurt Beckett was appointed as EFSEC Chair in January 2025. He brings nearly two decades of experience in management, environmental review, project operations and organizational strategy to the position. Prior to his EFSEC appointment, Kurt served as Chief Operating Officer at Strategies 360, working on wind, solar, battery storage and hydrogen generation and manufacturing projects. He previously served as the deputy CEO of the Northwest Seaport Alliance, a first-of-its-kind North American marine cargo operating partnership, and deputy CEO of the Port of Seattle. He also worked as District Director for U.S. Congressman Norm Dicks and State Director and Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell. He has previously served on the Washington State Maritime Blue board, the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, the University of Washington Center for Supply Chain, Transportation & Logistics, the International Association of Ports & Harbors Climate & Energy Committee, and continues as a board member for the University of Washington Tacoma Center for Urban Waters

Crystal Ball – Executive Director, Pacific Northwest Utilities Conference Committee

Crystal Ball serves as the Executive Director of the Pacific
Northwest Utilities Conference Committee (PNUCC), where she has
worked since January 2022. In her role she provides a platform for
industry leaders to discuss common interests, explore differences, and
collaborate on regional energy solutions. She also helps raise
awareness of the Pacific Northwest’s changing energy landscape.

Jim Ogle – Director of Electricity Infrastructure Sector – PNNL

Jim Ogle is the Director of Electricity Infrastructure Sector at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory where he leads initiatives aimed at modernizing the U.S. electric grid for a more resilient and reliable energy future. With over 30 years of experience spanning utility transmission and distribution operations, distributed intelligent systems, advanced energy management, and cybersecurity, Jim directs research in advanced distribution systems, sensors and data analytics, communications systems, and secure grid operations. He holds patents in data management and smart meter communications, enhancing systems reliability and resilience. Jim is an active member of the International Electrotechnical Commission and earned degrees in electrical engineering from Seattle University and Columbia University. 

Mani Venkatasubramanian – Director, Energy Systems Innovation Center

Mani V. Venkatasubramanian is a Boeing Distinguished Professor in Electrical Engineering at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, WA. He also serves as the Director of the Energy Systems Innovation Center which manages the power engineering research and education at WSU. He serves as the Chair of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Working Group on Power System Dynamic Measurements. He is an elected member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences. He was an invited member of the working groups that studied the 1996 Western interconnection blackouts and the 2003 Northeastern blackout. Mani has been working on modeling, stability analysis, and control designs for power grids for the past thirty years. He is an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to the online detection of oscillatory behavior of electric power systems. He is a recipient of the IEEE PES Prabha S. Kundur Power System Dynamics and Control Award.

Larry Bekkedahl – Senior Vice President, Strategy and Advanced Energy Delivery, Portland General Electric

He oversees PGE’s strategy, system architecture and system upgrades, which will serve as the foundation for the smart grid of the future. This includes initiatives related to system integration and operations, planning, enabling distributed energy resources, energy storage, and standby generation. He also oversees transmission delivery, Federal and State Grants, data analytics and generative Al, and innovation, as well as research and development.

Brad Heilman – Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory

Brad Heilman, P.E., has a B.S.E.E. degree from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. From 1990 to 1997, he was employed as a system protection engineer for Black Hills Power & Light. His utility work included transmission line and generator protection, power plant and substation commissioning, and SCADA system upgrades. In 1997, he joined Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. as a field application engineer supporting customers in Arizona, California, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, Nebraska, Nevada, Idaho, and South Dakota. He is an IEEE member and licensed professional engineer in the state of South Dakota.

Jacob Reidt – Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Jacob Reidt is an Advisor on the Grid Communication and Architecture Engineering Team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He is the Director of GridCRED, an analytics platform sponsored by the DOE Office of Electricity and the Washington State Department of Commerce and led by PNNL. He has held engineering and senior management roles at Seattle City Light, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and most recently, Avista Utilities. He has also served as an adjunct for the Gonzaga Transmission & Distribution Master’s Program and received a BSEE from Seattle University as well as an MBA from Gonzaga University.

Brett Ross – Electrical Engineer, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Brett Ross received the BSEE from University of Central Florida in 2019 and the MSEE from the University of Idaho in 2025. He is an electrical engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL) in the Resilience Engineering group. His research interests include power systems applications of power electronics, power system protection, and power system transients. His current research portfolio focuses on power electronics performance requirements for grid stability and protection system combability as well as modeling and integration of large computational loads such as datacenters. Prior to joining PNNL, he worked for Duke Energy in Lake Mary, FL, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., in Pullman, WA.
